Howard Lederer grew up in a family of 5 in which he liked participating in numerous card games at a young age. He found himself getting very competitive in these particular card games as he was playing his dad. After graduating from secondary school, Howard decided to place higher education on hold for a little while and moved to New York City to compete in some big-time chess. While competing in chess, he was introduced to a poker game going on in the rear of the room. Howard’s initial two years were rough as he played countless hours and don’t win most times. He earned some extra cash by becoming an runner for the poker players. He judged he could improve his game by adjusting his life outside of poker. He brought about an attempt to get more sleep and focus even more on poker.

The real improvement in his skills happened when he began betting at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the best gamblers would often challenge one another. Howard was able to access some of the greatest players in chess. With their assistance, Howard Lederer would tweak his strategic thinking skills. He used these strategy concepts in the game of No-Limit hold’em.

Howard Lederer also assisted his sibling Annie Duke learn poker. She was a great student of poker as she constantly asked questions about the right way to make the correct choice. Howard told Annie to move out to Las Vegas and play in the WSOP competition. Annie is one of the strongest women players the poker arena today. Howard Lederer relocated to Las Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and participated in money games for the next decade. When the WPT gained popularity, he made the decision to participate in more tournaments.
