Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker player in the world by most of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover anything he could about the game. He routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the detrimental feedback from other people annihilate his ambition of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.
Phil began playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching period and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to discipline and a continuing love for poker. He says that he’s learning every day and is incredibly humble about his success. Phil admits to making errors in each game of poker and always aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
