Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker player on the globe by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to learn everything he possibly could about poker. Phil would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the adverse comments from other people destroy his goal of being one of the greatest poker players on the planet.

He started playing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a learning period and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated a number of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to hard work and a continuing passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every single day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. He admits to making mistakes in each game of poker and always strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
