Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. Gus won a large pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the strongest enthusiasts around the world. While gambling on online poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. Gus regularly competes in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus more often than not buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and gambles very weak. He waits patiently for a good hand and then goes all-in. I believe Gus is an excellent poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is bankrupt, he has no reason to play at the table with the minimum buy in.

Playing for the minimum takes a majority of the skill out of deep stack poker. Hansen is accepted to be one of the best poker players in the world but he can’t buy in for the total amt.. I think tv can alter our perception of the real world at times. The best poker players anywhere in the world might just be players you have won’t have heard of.
