by Amari on Jun.25, 2022, under Poker

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to discover every little thing he could about poker. He routinely would tell his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not let the detrimental feedback from others destroy his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker players in the world.

He began competing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a teaching experience and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed many of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to discipline and a continuing love for the game of poker. Phil states that he is learning every single day and is very abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes blunders in each session of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Although Phil has won some large tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
