by Amari on Aug.09, 2022, under Poker

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker player in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching turning 1. His grandpa showed him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the detrimental feedback from other people kill his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.

He began playing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a learning experience and winning wasn’t a common thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an eternal passion for the game of poker. He says that he’s learning every single day and is very humble about his accomplishments. He admits to making mistakes every single game of poker and always strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some large tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a normal basis.
