Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker contender on the globe by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to learn anything he could about poker. He routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the negative comments from other people annihilate his goal of being one of the greatest poker players on the planet.

He began competing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to dedication and a continuing passion for the game of poker. He says that he is learning every single day and is quite abashed about his achievements. He knows he makes blunders every single game of poker and always strives to get better.

Although Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a normal basis.
