Omaha Hi Lo: General Summary

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is often times seen as one of the most difficult but well-loved poker games. It’s a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for action from every level of players. This is the main reason why a once irrelevant game, has grown in popularity so quickly.
Omaha hi low begins exactly like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are given out to each player. A round of wagering ensues in which gamblers can bet, check, or fold. 3 cards are handed out, this is referred to as the flop. Another sequence of betting happens. After all the players have either called or dropped out, an additional card is revealed on the turn. a further round of betting happens and then the river card is revealed. The players must attempt to put together the strongest high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is where a few entrants can get flustered. Unlike Holdem, where the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi/lo the player must use exactly 3 cards on the board, and exactly two cards from their hand. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot could be won: the "higher hand" or the "low hand."
A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It is the strongest possible hand out of every player’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the very same approach in just about every poker game.
The low hand is more complicated, but certainly free’s up the play. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the worst hand that might be made, with the worst being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Considering that straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the smallest value hand possible. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and below. The low hand wins half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there is no low hand presented, the high hand wins the complete pot.
It may seem complicated initially, after a couple of hands you will be agile enough to pick up on the basic subtleties of the game with ease. Seeing as you have individuals betting for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as such a large number of cards are being used at once, Omaha hi lo provides an overwhelming collection of betting choices and because you have several players shooting for the high hand, and a few shooting for the low hand. If you prefer a game with a lot of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to play Omaha 8 or better.
