Howard Lederer was born into in a family of 5 in which he loved gambling on numerous card games at a young age. He found himself becoming really aggressive in these card games as he was playing his father. After graduating from Sr. High school, Howard made a decision to put higher education on hold for a little while and relocated to New York to participate in some big-time chess. While competing in chess, he was brought in to a poker game going on in the rear of the room. Howard’s 1st two years were rough as he played countless hours and fail to win most times. He earned some additional money by being an assistant for the poker enthusiasts. He judged he possibly could better his game by balancing his life away from poker. He made an effort to get more rest and concentrate more on the game.

The real improvement in his abilities happened when he began gambling at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the the most favorable players would regularly wager against one another. He had access into some of the foremost minds in chess. With their help, Howard Lederer would tweak his cunning thinking skills. Howard applied these strategic ideas to the game of No-Limit Texas Holdem.

Howard Lederer also helped his sister Annie Duke master the game of poker. Annie was a superb student of the game as she would consistently be asking questions about how to make the correct choice. Howard Lederer told Annie to move out to Vegas and compete in the WSOP competition. She is one of the greatest female players the poker world ever. Howard relocated to Vegas in 1993 and competed in money games for the following 10 years. When the WPT gained popularity, he made the decision to compete in more tournaments.
